Wreck of HMS Pathfinder dived. Located 15miles out into the North Sea off the NE coast of Scotland at a depth of 65m, light cruiser HMS Pathfinder was sunk in 1914 by U21 and was the World's first war ship to be sunk by torpedo fired from a submarine with the loss of 259 crew out of 268.

AUG: 2011

A Tritech (www.tritech.co.uk) Star Fish side scan sonar is successfully used to confirm the orientation of two shipwrecks. Lying off the NE coast of Scotland, SS Gowrie and the fishing trawler Fernside are in very close proximity to one another at a depth of 56m.


Paul Haynes is featured on a special episode of Catalyst, an Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) documentary programme that discusses rebreather development and application (www.abc.net.au)

MAY: 2011

Diving expedition 15 miles off Wick, NE Scotland.

A large freighter, broken up in 55m was dived over two days in challenging conditions typical of the North Sea.  It appeared to be carrying general cargo and be of WWII vintage, possibly the SS Makalla, attacked and sunk by German aircraft in 1940.  On return to Orkney the WWI boom defence vessel Strathgary was dived in good visibility at a depth of 60m.Paul Haynes and Rod Macdonald connect the inner gun turrets of SMS Bayern by line at a depth of 41m enabling both pairs of gun turrets to be seen in a single dive - read Rod’s blog (www.rod-macdonald.co.uk).On return to Stromness, a family pod of five Orcas, within close vicinity of the dive boat, were observed hunting seal and fish.


Paul Haynes is interviewed by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation for the TV show Catalyst who are to screen a special programme on military diving and rebreather technology.

APR: 2011

RYA Advanced Power Boat Course completed.

MAR: 2011

Combined closed circuit oxygen / semi closed circuit nitrox rebreather training course conducted on behalf of a client. Closed circuit oxygen rebreather training conducted for a federal law enforcement agency on behalf of a client.
